About The Role

Are you passionate about helping young people unlock their full potential? Do you believe that every child, no matter their background, deserves the chance to succeed? If you’re an inspiring English teacher who’s ready to make a real difference, we want YOU on our team!

At Lodestar Academy, we’re leading the way in Torbay by supporting marginalised young people with complex needs, giving them the skills, confidence, and care they need to succeed in life. We’re on the hunt for an enthusiastic English Teacher to join our dynamic, dedicated team and help develop our literacy and communication skills up to GCSE level.

What We’re Looking For

  • A passionate, innovative, and enthusiastic English teacher who can inspire students to love reading, writing, and communication – no matter where they start.
  • A teacher who’s ready to work alongside our Senior Leadership Team to shape the future of English at our academy.
  • Someone who’s committed to making a difference, especially for those students who need the most support and care.
  • A champion for restorative practices (training provided!), and someone who truly believes that every student can achieve great things when they’re given the right environment to flourish.

What We Offer

  • A nurturing, inclusive environment where every student feels valued, respected, and supported.
  • A culture built on empathy, resilience, and respect—where we work together to help our students thrive.
  • A collaborative team of like-minded professionals who are passionate about providing the best learning experience for every student.
  • Ongoing professional development to help you grow and thrive in your teaching career.

What’s in it for YOU?

  • The chance to make a real impact on the lives of young people in Torbay.
  • Supportive colleagues, a positive school culture, and a chance to be part of something special.
  • Whether you’re an Early Careers Teacher or a seasoned pro, you’ll feel right at home with us!

Ready to make a difference? Apply today to join our amazing team at Lodestar Academy. Together, we’ll give our students the skills they need to succeed—academically, personally, and beyond.

About Us

Lodestar Academy is a dynamic academy based in Torbay, who have built an impressive reputation in the alternative education provision sector for young people aged 11-18.  We believe that all young people have the capacity to learn, regardless of their life situation. And our aim is to open the door to learning for those - often with social, emotional and mental health needs - who have been excluded or marginalised.

Our academy will provide a safe, nurturing environment for 50 secondary-age students who have been unable to sustain a place in mainstream education. By prioritising academic achievement and introducing behaviour interventions and therapeutic support where necessary, it will enable them to re-integrate at the same key stage as their peers, and go on to access opportunities into employment and further education.

Ofsted recently judged Lodestar Academy to be a good school:

"The welfare of pupils and their families is at the heart of The Lodestar Academy."
